Ojude Oba 🇳🇬
One of my goals for this year was to tell the story of the Ojude Oba festival which happens in my mom’s home town in Ijebu Ode.
I did an extensive video and this would be on my YouTube channel later this week. What really amuses me about this is the uniformity and how the colors go so well on everyone, the peak of Owambe!
Ethiopian warrior prince with spear & shield made of animal hide. The African Kingdom of Abyssinia (Ethiopia) defeated colonial invaders during the battle of Adwa in 1896. Motion portrait by Yatreda.
⠀
💡 Fact: In those days, strong shields could be made by drying hippopotamus skin
⠀
💡 Fact: The Ethiopian warriors were under-equipped compared to the colonial invaders, yet still won
⠀
💡 Fact: Decorated or royal soldiers sometimes wore lion's mane to battle
